QCLP Spotlight: Asmaa
A mother of 6 surviving, unsheltered children with serious medical needs!
One Shock After Another
Image description: Large colorful tropical leaves and big asterisks in front of text. Text says "bit.ly/supportasmaa | Asmaa's family faces eviction | please help Ghaida | 'I'm so tired. All I want is to live in peace, go to school, and eat noodles.’ 14 year old Ghaida”
Urgent request: Asmaa is in the hospital with Eileen. Ghaida is caring for her younger siblings and disabled father. They have been unsheltered for 6 days and need $,1400 urgently to purchase a tent.
I have been struggling for concise words to explain Asmaa’s family’s circumstances for months now. Their story must be told in long form, because every single family member has suffered individually.
Asmaa, her husband Ahmed, and their 7 children lived a beautiful life. They had everything they needed. The genocide has completely turned their world upside down.
The family’s home and businesses were destroyed. Asmaa’s family traveled for safety or treatment. Ahmed became very sick from severe vitamin B12 deficiency, and Asmaa became the sole provider for her family.
Ahmed can no longer work, walk, or care for himself, let alone his children and wife. He is suffering tremendously in this genocide.
Horrifically, Asmaa and Ahmed were beaten by the occupation when they failed to flee their dangerous area “in time” months ago. Asmaa was hospitalized for weeks with kidney complications and sepsis afterwards.
I told you that Asmaa and Ahmed had 7 children. That was true, but the shattered healthcare system was unable to save little Mohammed when he had a tragic accident at just 2 years old.
Asmaa’s surviving children are suffering, too.
14-year-old Ghaida has been forced to become mother and caregiver for her siblings and father multiple times. The burden is absolutely too much for a 14-year-old to bear. She just wants a hug from her mom, shelter for her family, and noodles to eat.
Currently, Ghaida has a fever from an infected dog bites. Living without shelter is extremely dangerous. Please help!
12-year-old Nabil was born with a hole in his neck, which makes swallowing difficult. He needs special food and is prone to chest infections. He’s been injured multiple times trying to get food for his siblings from the GHF “aid” sites.
10-year-old Alaa was stung by a venomous insect and never received antibiotics because the price was too high. She hasn’t been able to walk on her foot for weeks.
8-year-old Hussein deals with osteoporosis, kidney issues, and struggles with his ureter. For months he’s need catheterization and urgent surgeries but surgery is also cost-prohibitive.
5-year-old Eileen has been hospitalized for weeks now due to severe complications and bleeding following an emergency tonsillectomy. Asmaa has been with her in the hospital, separated from her children.
Lastly, little Houriya is just 9 months old, and has been repeatedly traumatized. She does not know how to eat solids yet, and she developed vitiligo the last time she went days without milk. She is malnourished and at extreme risk of starvation.
Folks in Palestine deserve committed, ongoing, principled solidarity. They deserve shelter, food, water, medical care, survival, love, and joy just as much as you do.
